Location. The perfect escape for couples and outdoor adventurers seeking a peaceful hideaway, the W Retreat & Spa in Vieques, Puerto Rico, overlooks secluded beaches, where horseback riding, snorkeling, boating, kayaking and the world-famous bioluminescent Mosquito Bay rule the day. In addition to touring museums, cafes and shops in town, guests can visit nearby Navio Beach, where the 1990 movie "Lord of the Flies" was filmed.
Resort Features. Beach enthusiasts can descend stairways down a 10-foot bluff to the sand for swimming, sunning and viewing the far-off islands. Visitors can relax around the bi-level pool and sip frozen concoctions from the pool bar. The area also features a section for children and a coral-stone sundeck. The 6,000-square-foot Nourish by Spa Chakra features a sea-view fitness center, four-person spa tubs, steam rooms, saunas, massages and papaya-pineapple scrubs. Thrill seekers at the hotel can book after-dark bay tours and rent snorkeling gear, kayaks, and windsurfing equipment.
Guestrooms. In 17 yellow buildings, the 156 plantation-style guestrooms are some of the Caribbean's largest, measuring at least 600 square feet. Furnished like Spanish villas with patterned tiles and wrought-iron fixtures, they offer air conditioning, bamboo chairs and floor lamps, wood-paddle ceiling fans, CD players, sunken bathtubs, and balconies/terraces with teak furniture and spectacular ocean views.
The W Retreat & Spa - Vieques Island opens 1 February 2010, but is not accepting reservations until 1 April 2010.
A resort fee is collected upon booking but is separate from the nightly rate. |
